Whitney Houston and Dana Bash

Whitney Elizabeth Houston, born 9 August 1963 to an incredibly musical family from Newark New Jersey is the daughter of gospel star Cissy Houston and John Russell Houston Jr. They are also cousins of singer Dionne Warwick. The mother of Whitney Houston and her daughter began singing professionally at New Hope Baptist Church of Newark when Whitney was only fifteen years old. They sang the backing vocals in Chaka Khan's track in 1978 Im Every Woman. She then went on to sing backing vocals with Lou Rawls and Jermaine and her mother. The vocals she sang with the New York-based band Material attracted major record labels which included Arista. They signed her with Arista in 1983 where she was a part of the company for the remainder of her professional career. The album she released as her debut Whitney Houston was released in 1985, and was the most-seller album by an artist who was a rookie. The album All My Love was released in 1985 and was a top one single. It was the first US year of release, the album has sold in excess of 3 million units. After that, it was to be bought by over more than 25 million worldwide, earning her her first Grammy. The Whitney album from 1987, that featured songs like I Wanna Dance With Somebody and Where Do Broken Hearts Get to and continued to be a huge success. However, it was The Bodyguard of 1992 that turned her into one of the top-selling performers in the history of music. The film, and her performance in it was not well received, but the music and her interpretation of the song by Dolly Parton I Will Always Love You was a hit for a few months at the top of the charts. In all, she sold nearly 44 million albums and singles across the globe. In the same year she gave birth to her daughter Bobbi Brown, she got married to Bobby Brown of the ex-New Edition group.
