Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens, better than Queen Latifah the US, is a performer and actress. Her work as a music actor, filmmaker and TV performer has garnered her two Screen Actors Guild Awards and two Image Awards. She also was awarded an Grammy Award and six other Grammy nominations. Queen Latifah was born in and lived in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita an educator who worked for Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens Jr. as a police officer. Latifahs parents split up at the age of Latifah, then ten years old. Latifah went to Catholic school in Newark New Jersey and was raised by her family's Baptist Church. Latifah is an Arabic term that translates to "delicate and kind". Her aunt bestowed it on her in the age of eight. Always a tall girl her height of 5'10 inches Latifah was a forward for her basketball team in high school. In her high school's play Latifah sang "Home" from The Wiz. Latifah started to beatbox with the Ladies Fresh. Latifah was a part of in the Flavor Unit in its original form, which consisted of a group of MCs with producer DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James aka DJ Mark the 45 King, recorded a demo recording of Queen Latifah's rap Princess of the Posse. He gave the recording to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was interested by the tune. The singer signed Latifah and then released her first track Wrath of My Madness in 1988.
